AD Arms Billet Ruger Precision/American Rifle Cocking Piece

***This Pin Back is compatible with new Gen 2 American rifles***

*NOTE* This firing pin back is not compatible with RPR/American rimfire rifles.

This product is a billet RPR/American Firing Pin Back or cocking piece developed by AD Arms in response to the breakages many have experienced with the factory metal injection molded part. The design allows it to replace the factory part with ease.

This cocking piece is machined from a pre-hardened 4140 alloy billet. It is then nitrided for increased hardness, wear-resistance and corrosion protection. This fully-machined part will get the job done without risk of failure.

Furthermore, this firing pin back is lighter than the stock part. Because it is lighter, it increases lock-time performance while the hardness of the material decreases cocking effort.

Immediately I could tell a big difference between the two. Plus this is machined and not a casted piece. As much detail as Ruger had put into the OEM part, you can just look at this, and tell it's a much better part.

I ordered this, an AO bolt handle, and a third party trigger spring last fall and spent the winter tweaking an American Ranch 5.56 and handloading for it. This part, the trigger spring, and a little stone and polish work account for reducing the factory trigger pull successfully to an extremely consistent 2.5 lbs with no creep except for the safety blade spring's compression period. I don't know if the bolt handle helped in that regard, but the two parts together plus lapping the lugs certainly eased the bolt lift an appreciable amount. I lapped the bore with a poured lead slug and Flitz, laddered up a handload with a favorite varmint bullet, and finally got to the range this month on a very calm day. Oh, the joy of sending 5 bullets through one hole from a $300 budget bolt gun with a carbine-length barrel! I'm certain that no matter how much credit I'd like to take for my patience and persistence in hand-working this little rifle in, the AD Arms Cocking Piece and AO Bolt Handle were at least equally essential to my results. What's more, I have a friend with a Ruger American whose cocking piece broke on him during a dry fire session. I've heard of this happening to others as well. I'm much more confident in this AD Arms piece, and glad I bought and installed it before the OEM part ever had a chance to fail me in action. Machined and heat treated as AD Arms claims in the product description, I expect it to outlast most of the rest of the rifle.

Not cheap but much better quality than the standard part and feels smoother with the firing pin upgrade I installed at the same time. Never have to worry about a failure in the field
